How To: Magnetic Nails

I have been obsessing over magnetic nail polish ever since my January trip to New York. This polish looks unreal on your fingers- different, edgy, and seemingly holographic. I've talked about it in a few videos, but I thought I would show you how it looks up close along with some of my tips on how to use it

I've found the best way to use this polish is to apply a complete first coat of the polish. Having this base coat really deepens the effect on the next layer. Shown is the polish by Nails Inc in the color "Trafalgar Square"

Like any polish, let this coat dry before moving on to the next. The difference with this polish compared to others is that instead of lightly applying your second coat, you're going to want a thick next layer. You want this to be done freely and thickly!

Another difference with this polish is that you want to do this one nail at a time- paint a heavy second coat, immediately followed by placing the magnet over the nail. The lid has a tiny groove to be placed under your cuticle as to perfectly position the magnet over the finger. The magnetic effect occurs almost immediately, but I still hold the cap in place for close to ten seconds.

That's it! You continue the same process until all of your nails are complete.

The best part of this polish? It is literally mistake proof! Mess up? Smudge your design with the cap? Paint on another coat and watch it disappear. Normal polishes look muddy if you continue to add layers, but the thickness of the polish only enhances the magnetic design. If you happen to mess it up, or simply just aren't happy with the design- add another layer and try again.

Pictures really don't do this polish justice- I promise, it looks a lot less 'zebra' in person!

I found this particular polish at Sephora. At $16, it is definitely on the pricier side of polishes, but it has become my go-to look. Have you ever used magnetic polish? Are you a fan? If not, I definitely recommend you run out and try this!

Instagrams from NYFW && W hotels Fashion Next

Hey Guys! So most of you know that I was in NYC for Fashion Week- I'm working on editing all of my video footage, but for today I thought I would show you some of my trip through Instagram pictures I took through out the week :)

Besides just staying at the W hotel, I had the pleasure of working with them for Fashion Next 2012- a series of fashion presentations highlighting up and coming designers with incredible work.

My pass! So official with it. Really, I'm just proud of myself for not losing it.

I couldn't make it to the first designer [Bibhu Mohapatra] because I was actually IN a runway show at the same time [polyvore live! thank you to all who watched!] but I managed to catch a few pictures at the other presentations- including some of my favorite looks! First up? Haus Alkire!

Who would have thought that my favorite look would be this comfortable, all-black ensemble? This is SO me! I especially loved the choice of the heeled black ankle boots. And, in case you were wondering- YES! It does feel mildly awkward walking up and taking pictures of them from 5 inches away- but you get over it after the first presentation :)

Kelly and I at the Haus Alkire presentation. If you're my viewer primarily through Youtube, or by some chance haven't seen her blog yet, you will LOVE her! She has amazing style, beautiful photos && is incredibly sweet.

Next up? Rochambeau! This presentation had amazing menswear- and men..

After the Rochambeau presentation, it was time for the Nanette Lepore show! Outside of the show there were a series of handbags displayed with this motto- I love it! No photos from the show, but I DID take video of my favorite looks- those will be posted soon!

The fourth designer in Fashion Next was Suzanne Rae- I loved the dresses in her collection, especially the feminine fabrics and high low hemlines.

Here's the outfit I wore for day 2 of Fashion Next/the 14th of NYFW. I have this outfit shown in this video if you'd like to see more of it! Luckily, this picture was taken before the demise of my sheer tights. My bracelets unfortunately snagged && murdered two pairs of tights before the end of the day! 'I will never be the girl who can wear white and not spill on it...'

The last presentation of Fashion Next was by Nomia. All of the looks featured black socks paired with black patent heels- would you wear this look? I personally LOVE socks with heels. Nomia's look was a softer take on the silhouette of an often edgier ankle boot. I liked it!

Models final walk at Nomia- and of Fashion Next 2012! The presentations were amazing, && I had such a fun time working with W hotels on it! I'm already missing my second home [and the amazing chocolate croissants- seriously, if you stay at the W in Times Square, you have to get one!]

Mermaid Dreams

HI! Long time, no blog! I'm back from New York [again] && have SO much to show you guys. For tonight, I thought I'd just show you my nail of the moment, what I'm loving && a hair update photo. All of these pictures were posted throughout the day on Instagram, so if you have an account and feel like following me my username is [wait for it] CarlyCristman :)

My polish choice today is Deborah Lippmann's 'Mermaid Dreams'. I found this polish staring me in the face while waiting in line at a register [always how they get you]!! I love the blue-yellow tone mixed with the glitter- it's a multi-dimensional sea foam shade that looks similar to a fish scale. My first thought of it on was 'mermaid!', so I enjoyed turning it upside down to see that as the actual name.

This first photo shows the polish with a flash, the next picture is more true to life.

I loooove this color [special extra o's to emphasize how much I like it]. My only complaint is that the polish on actually feels like sandpaper- I'm avoiding any contact with my nails because the glitter is horribly rough.

Look at me, venturing into color! I'm sure you're all aware that my style in the winter is very contrasted && desaturated [black. white. silver. pale. platinum] but I actually love wearing color in the warmer months! I'm enjoying wearing this polish with a bold off the shoulder top, chunky gold bracelets, and a matching colored ribbon bracelet I just found at Charming Charlie's.

So with the new spring style had to come a new spring look! Don't get me wrong, I LOVED the super-straight platinum hair combined with pale skin- but that matched my winter style. The platinum just didn't fit the loose, bo-ho look I so love in the warmer months. I'll be posting a video showing the full process, but for now I'll show you how it turned out. Throw in some loose waves && a spray tan and here's my finished look:

I'm SO happy with the results! I love how just a simple change of hair can change your whole mood. I think that's why I enjoy fashion && beauty so much- you can be whoever you want with a simple change of cut or color! Do you guys change your look depending on the season? Get Ready With Me- Birthday Party Look && Outfit

This past weekend was one of my very favorite friends birthdays- I wanted to film while I was getting ready so you could see the look I put together for his big night! (Something cream, flowy && shiny- who would have guessed?!) I guess you could say the silent caption running throughout this video would be 'I don't wear color, but I'll edit with it'.

The straightener I used is from ghd, the brushes are from Sigma. I didn't show my foundation because I'm not fond of the formula and it was over $40! I really wanted to have no influence in anyone else making the same mistake as I did purchasing it. [It's the Laura Mercier Silk Creme foundation- it's raved about all the time, but the formula wears off my face in a matter of hours]. Also, you know how I feel about 'blackest black', 'for real black' && 'XXXtreme!!! Black' mascara titles- but, despite the name, this is the best drugstore mascara I've purchased in months! I've switched to using it full time. It's a dryer formula than I normally go for, but the results are fabulous.

I forgot to show the MAC Mineralize Skin Finish I used on camera- which is, oddly enough- the star of this look. It's very glowy and natural as to not overpower the dress and extremely pale skin/hair- the shimmer applied to the cheekbones && brows gives the perfect luminescent, candle-lit effect.

I bought this dress on my most recent trip to LA. I love the neck detailing && the belled sleeve- it could look a little rapunzel, but I like that! It gives a sort of fairytale vibe to the outfit. The dress is actually an oatmeal and pink color- the pink didn't translate too well on camera. I paired the warmer toned dress with rose gold accessories- the sad news? The zipper on my heels broke while filming. It would not zip down! It took me a solid 20+ minutes to get the shoe off without damaging the heel [there was NO WAY I was cutting myself out- ruin a perfectly good pair of heels?! Are you crazy?!] Sigh. The moral of the story is- yes! You can wear open toe shoes in the winter! Just pair them with some tights to create an edgy, current look.

Cut Out Dress: Windsor

I knew I had to have this dress the moment I saw it! I love dresses that have unique detailing. This dress is special enough for the holiday, but different enough from the typical 'new years' look. The front is a classic black dress with a little bit of edge, the back is glamorous and exciting! I've opted for minimal styling since the dress is such a statement. It's best to forget the accessories && just let the dress shine!

I found so many new favorites this month! Normally I just switch up my routine with products I already have, so I was extremely excited to find brand new items that I love!

I've talked about my new sunglasses in multiple posts, but I seriously can't express enough HOW much I love these. [If you love it so much, why don't you marry it?] [..because there's no "married to Prada" option on facebook]

I can't get over these Burberry armwarmers. The tweed adds so much texture and detail when paired with a solid colored cape or sweater. I love putting them over the sleeve of a long sweater, and pulling the sleeve up to create a bubble hem around the elbow. It adds such style to basic pieces! You can find armwarmers pretty much anywhere- just look for a pair that you like!

This clutch has been featured in most of my outfit posts this month. They also carry it in black and silver, but surprisingly I like the gold the most! It's a very well designed clutch- instead of just having one open compartment, it's divided like an incredible wallet. Perfect and practical!

All I can say about these polishes: BUY THEM. LAYER THEM. LOVE THEM.

I discuss the Revlon Lip Butters more in my November beauty haul, but basically the pigmentation varies between the shades. I find the darker colors [such as Red Velvet] work better as a lip stain, where the light shades can be freely applied as a true 'lip butter'. I love the color and feel of these lighter shades!

The Sigmax tapered kabuki has replaced my favorite flat top kabuki- I love that it combines the shape of a typical foundation brush with the density of their sigmax line. It gives you precise application with perfect blending!

What I'm Wearing

OPI's "Designer ...de better!" is my number one polish recommendation for the holiday season. I raved about it in my november beauty haul [click to watch if you haven't already seen my review]. It's a beautiful champagne metallic polish with extremely finely milled rainbow glitter. If you're not a fan of glitter in polishes, do NOT let that discourage you from trying this color- you won't even notice it, you'll only notice the sparkle! The polish transitions from champagne to ivory depending on the light, but is beautiful regardless of your setting. Definitely my new favorite new polish! Metallic polishes work wonders with their light tricks- they make your nails look long and strong with the sheen they emit. You will be surprised with how nice your nails look in a mirror!

I'm normally not a fan of glitter topcoats- I find they look messy, tacky, and they're the devil to remove. But this top coat provides a truly unbeatable diamond shine. The glitter is not dulled by the clear polish, and the reflection is a seriously beautiful chrome. The combination with this metallic polish makes your nails look like you have diamond snow flakes on your fingers- perfect for this holiday season!

I love finding new ways to wear old pieces. My sister gave me this dress from her closet a few years prior [it's been around for a LONG time!]. Turtlenecks are a great way to transition a favorite dress into the colder season- get away with shorter sleeves by pairing it with this comfortable layer! Fun accessories can revamp older pieces by giving them a different feel. This look has a mod-glam vibe when paired with the oversized sunglasses and tights. The tights may be viewed as 'risque' to some, but they appear glamorous as opposed to trashy when paired with modest layers. Highlight one specific piece while covering others to achieve balance in your look.

This particular style diary contains so many of my favorite things- tights. sunglasses. my bed. Even a cover by one of my favorite bands. I absolutely loved shooting && editing this look!

November Beauty Haul && Review

Lip Butters have been the rave of every beauty vlogger the past month- the products are a better version of lipstick for the cold season, as well as an inexpensive way to expand your collection of lip color [I personally wouldn't spend $20+ dollars to have 6 variations of light pink, but I felt less guilty indulging in every shade because they are less than seven dollars]. OPI Designer de Better is my absolute favorite beauty find of the month. Metallic nails are my staple (usually silver), but this champagne color is almost more suited to me than my prior favorites. It's a gorgeous champagne/ivory shade with glitter so finely milled you won't even notice it- all you'll see is sparkle! I knew I wanted it the minute I dropped it in Ulta and the color shattered all over the ground. Who knew my impromptu floor swatch would become my new obsession?

Forget it:
1. TooFaced Size Queen Mascara
2. Maybelline The Falsies Flared
3. Maybelline Baby Lips

Size Queen is like DiorShow on steroids- if you like large wands, you'll need this. I personally am not a fan of even DiorShow, so this product was an epic fail for me. Maybelline is one of my favorite drugstore brands, but these products offered no excitement for me. The falsies is a great mascara- but the 'flared' addition really offered no difference, which is why this particular product landed in the 'forget it' section. Baby lips is fine for those who aren't chapstick freaks, but as for me- I'll stick with my boy Burt.

Fabulous Find:
Target buys back electronics! Who knew?! They bought my iPhone 4 for $170! Since they sell the phones in store && I was eligible for an upgrade, I ended up paying $29 for the new 4s! Whoever said Santa does not exist clearly never met Cesar from the electronics department at Target.

Lips: Revlon Lip Butter 'Creamsicle'

Who says you can't wear gold and silver at the same time? They are both neutrals- you can pair the shimmering pieces together for a chic mixed metal style. You can wear multiple sparkly pieces together as long as you pair them with less dressy fabrics. Wear sequin shorts with a chunky, oversized sweater to create a look that is high on glitz but low on effort. Loose fitting, thicker knits create the perfect balance for short shorts and minis. I found this super comfy sweater in the men's department at TJ Maxx- super cheap, super relaxed && totally adorable.

Opaque tights are a must have addition to your winter wardrobe- use them to make seemingly seasonal pieces like shorts and skirts into year round wearable looks.

This outfit contains two new recent additions to my closet- the patent bow heel && [wait for it....] new sunglasses! I saw these heels and almost fell over with how cute they are. They're actually more comfortable walking than just trying them on- and the best part? They were under $60 :)

If you've been a longtime follower of mine, you know I always..always, always, always.. wore my Gucci oversized sunglasses. They, along with many of my relationships, completely broke this summer. I had been searching for their replacement until I FINALLY tried these glasses on- I CANNOT STOP LOOKING AT THEM. They are interesting. They are art. They are me. I knew they were it from the moment the frames touched my face. I'm pretty sure that most casual observers will hate them, but I love them. They are not 'weird', they are different- and difference is beautiful.

I guess what they say about love is true- when you know, you just know. Who would have thought that my soul mate would turn out to be Prada? ;)

This month I've really been loving either a neutral face with a hint of pink [lovejoy && cruising] or a pale, matte face with a pop of red [dolce vita]. Layering neutrals was my favorite fashion look this month, combined with my long druzy necklace. I either wear the combo with skinny jeans and heels [as seen in my last style post], or with riding pants && boots for a more casual feel.

Layers in varying neutrals with jeans is a big trend for fall- the type of layer can be altered to fit whatever location you're in [warmer places can do long sleeves with looser shirts, I personally like to pair different sweaters together].

You can wear all kinds of jeans with this look! I'm wearing the jeans I basically live in [my David Kahn Pencil Jeans] I like the dark wash for a sleek look even when comfy. For a more relaxed look, pair it with a boot cut or flare jean. For a dressier look, skinnies with boots [or flats.. or heels.. seriously, this can be worn 100 different ways]

The key to this look is the lower layer fitting tighter than the top, with mostly the sleeve exposed [the collar can also show, but its best for the top layer to be the longest]. I've seen this look sold in a set for hundreds of dollars by higher end brands- but all you need to recreate the style are two separates that you probably already own!

The great thing about this trend is it can be 'done' so many different ways- pair it with loose waves, a floppy hat && relaxed jeans for a more bohemian look, or high heels && a high bun for a relaxed chic vibe.

Personally, I like the top layer to be a lighter color than the bottom one as well- but that's just me! You can do this look any way you want to- pair it with a scarf to complete the multi-layered look. It's stylish, effortless- and incredibly comfortable!

Britney Spears "Criminal" Music Video Inspired Look

Britney's brand new video for "Criminal" is my FAVORITE from this CD- I love everything about it! Basically... IT'S SO HOT. I knew I wanted to make a tutorial on the look she's wearing in the second half of the video [super dark, contrasted && edgy- yet beautiful!] so here's my version!

Her look focused on heavy shading and thick lashes, but her lids were bright and shiny

I used the dark shadow first to get the strong, blended effect I wanted && applied the lid shadow after. I prefer to work dark to light when using any form of shimmer or metallic shadow because it's easiest to blend that way without moving any of the glimmer to different parts of the eye. Wetting the shadow brush intensifies the shine SO much- you'll be amazed at how intense the result is! I skipped false lashes for the tutorial, but to REALLY look like the video you'll need a set of full, thick fake lashes.

Her skin was bronzed and highlighted only by her cheekbones- for this I used a matte bronzer to warm the entire complexion, && then a shimmer bronzer as a contour. To create that strong highlight along the cheekbone, I used the same highlight placed on the brow bone. Using shimmered shadows as highlighter is great when you want to use minimal products or can only carry a certain amount with you- you can have a multitude of products all in one shadow palette!

MAC "Hue" is one of my all time favorite lipsticks- it is the perfect base color in a variety of looks. It's technically a pinky-nude, but it's not so pink that you can't wear it in neutral looks- the gloss you put on top REALLY changes the final look! I use this as a base for most looks, then pop a colored gloss on top to give the final color.

How can you know someone so well, and think about them constantly- but have not a single word that is fit to describe the way you feel towards them? How is that you have nothing to actually say despite your only desire being to speak with them? A simple 'hello' would not suffice to explain the extent to which they plague my daily mind. But anything deeper would also be far too large a statement, a sign of commitment which I am not willing to make. I sit staring at my phone hoping that it will ring with a message from this individual- but I personally would never send the message because I wouldn't know where to begin. What are the chances this very person thinks about me in the same capacity?

My better judgement would point to them feeling the exact same way, but expressing it in a completely different manner. Like all other girls, I spent the other night sitting up in bed, thinking of how I would respond if this person were to randomly send me a message. And at the very moment I was imagining this.. it happened. So obviously I did the next logical step- I completely ignored it, and went to sleep.

How is it that we sit longing for each other to send that message- but we never respond once its sent? How is it that two people can realize, and feel, the exact same way as the other- but stay apart at the same conclusion? We both realize how much we care, but neither of us are willing to make any move to alter our situations current status. Is that a fear of commitment, or a fear of something larger? A fear that we will lose the fragment of what's left of us? And is that fear of losing 'us' actually the reason for our ultimate demise?

Both our silent stands against a motion to come together slowly pull us apart. Will you ultimately become a memory of someone I used to care for? A time I used to enjoy? Or only a feeling I can not replace, but one that I am sure I miss?

My head is screaming at me that I'm holding on to the past. Nothing beneficial can come from what I think I want. It's telling me that I have everything I've ever wanted in front of me- except the only thing my heart wants is you. When should you stop listening to your head, and listen to your heart? And which is correct? My head, looking out for my heart- or my heart, which wants what my head does not understand?

Chanel Fall Polishes, Pictures && Review

Metallic polishes have always been my favorite, but they're also a huge trend this fall. Chanel's 'Peridot' has been talked about literally EVERYWHERE- so I decided to see if it was worth the hype! I picked up that color as well as 'Graphite', a metallic charcoal. (Charcoal is one of my favorite polish colors, so I had high hopes for this polish!)

Here are the polishes while in the bottle. Peridot is a duochrome with green and gold colors, while Graphite is a charcoal/steely gray with very, very refined glitter. I'm actually NOT the biggest fan of glitter polishes (Which I'm sure will surprise most of my viewers who are aware of my sparkle obsession)- I prefer a straight chrome shine. I was instantly a little wary when I saw HOW glittery the polish appeared in the bottle, but I thought I'd give it a try.

I took a picture of graphite both inside and outside in natural light to show just how different this polish looks in different settings (the same with the below pictures of Peridot). These colors look completely different when inside versus outside in sunshine. I LOVE them in natural light- inside they are nothing special. In sunlight you see just how multi-faceted these colors are, while inside they look flat and almost grain-y. Thankfully the glitter is not true to normal glitter polishes with chunks and being difficult to remove- it's so finely milled that its actually a part of the polish itself. I love how liquidy the shine appears to be in the sunlight, but it sadly does not look that way at all times.

Here is Peridot under the same settings. Peridot has been the most raved about polish color this season, so imagine my disappointment when I didn't experience instant love with the results. Outside the color is a beautiful metallic olive, a shade almost neutral yet special enough to love. Inside the color is an awkward combination of gold, green and even rust at certain angles. To me, the flat coloring resembles a mood ring like the kind I had when I was in middle school. I feel very juvenile wearing this polish unless it's hit by a bright light. I feel like this polish is a cult favorite with people potentially raving about it since others are raving so highly of it- or maybe I am really just the only strange one who doesn't enjoy the lava lamp-esque glow on her fingers.

My overall review of these polishes is that I LOVE the colors they are when they're hit by direct, intense light. These polishes shine outside in sunlight, showing off their true dimensions, colors and glitters- but inside, for me, they fall flat. Maybe I had higher expectations since each bottle cost $25- but for that price, I think I'm allowed to wish for the best.

Everyday Neutral Fall Makeup Look && "Real Women"

I've worn this look in my most recent videos && was requested so many times to do a tutorial on it- the look is SO basic and easy! It takes about 5 minutes and uses only three simple shadows. This is a very clean and neutral look perfect to start transitioning into fall. It's also great to wear for back to school or work- it takes minimal effort and product, but enhances your natural features and leaves you looking clean, fresh and polished!

This vlog I filmed because I felt like this topic needed to be discussed after seeing recent tweets about thin women being 'digusting' to 'empower real women'. All women are real, regardless of size and shape- we should be empowering women by teaching them to be the healthiest for their shape, not by teaching them to think negatively of other's bodies.

I showed this outfit in my LA Style Diary (click here to watch the video) and wore these shorts in my most recent style video (click here to see that video && post). These shorts are great worn high waisted as shown in the previous looks, or layered under a longer tank to keep the focus on the dress. These shorts add sparkle and a different texture to this outfit. I also have this 'slip' in black (click here to see that style post)- but I wear them as open maxi's instead. This was another favorite look of mine this summer!

I'm not ready to say goodbye to warm weather, but I am excited to say hello to warm colors and lots of layers! Are you sad to see summer go- or are you excited for fall?

Ways to Wear.. A Pearl Necklace

Pearl necklaces are a classic staple in any wardrobe. A long strand like this is a great investment for your closet because you can wear it so many ways. It doesn't have to be an expensive purchase either- I got mine from Target! It's simple, inexpensive, && adds immediate grace and glamour to an otherwise basic outfit.

I created the backwards drape with my necklace one day because I was trying to accessorize an open back tank I had. I ended up loving how it turned out! Start by place the necklace as usual. Hold the two sides of the necklace and cross them over eachother, securing the cross section with some form of charm/ribbon/locket. Flip the lower section around your neck as you would to create a double strand appearance, but instead of evening them to resemble 2 similar sized strands, you pull the 'second strand' to the back. The front is a draped, cascading pearl necklace while the back is a modern take on the classic Audrey Hepburn look!

Which way is your favorite? I love the backwards drape because it's unique, interesting && adds instant drama to any open back top. But the way I most often wear it is the simple long style :)

My favorite Gucci sunglasses broke! Needless to say, I've been devastated. I'm trying to

fix them, but in the meantime I've been wearing these oversized shades from Target. This crop sweater I'm wearing has been one of my favorite additions to my wardrobe this year. I did a previous outfit post/video featuring this top in colder weather (click here for that post and for the video). The top is so simple but looks so styled and expensive on- definitely one of my 'go-to' pieces when I'm unsure of what to wear.

Unlike the sweater, these shorts were crazy expensive! (And crazy uncomfortable..) I had buyer's remorse for weeks after purchasing them, but I've already worn them with SO many outfits that they've proven worth their price. High waisted beaded shorts don't sound very versatile, but their neutral coloring have made them crazy easy to wear with endless items. They are a statement piece- so everything else needs to be relaxed (which makes it even easier to get ready- minimal makeup and a 5 minute hairstyle to complete this look) The half fishtail has been one of my main looks this summer- super simple while interesting and different. Dear Diary #6

Sometimes I wonder on how perfectly fine days I can become such an emotional recluse. It's as if a switch has been flipped. I find myself ditching my plans, ignoring my phone and sitting on my couch completely silent for hours contemplating the same scenarios over and over in my head. Some days I wake up and I will literally do nothing but lay in complete darkness in my room until I am physically forced to get up. I withdraw into these dark emotional lulls thinking I'm upset over a particular situation, until I ask myself- do you really care that they did that? ...No. You're mad they aren't calling- would you even answer if they did? ...No. You want them to make some huge change, but would you take them back even if they did? ...and the answer is always no.

Here I realize I am more upset ...that I am upset

I'm more annoyed with myself ...that I am annoyed

hurt with myself, that I still can be hurt

and angry, that people still have the power to bring out these feelings.

I realize my problem isn't what they've done, but instead that they have the ability to do so.

I am extremely controlling when it comes to my emotions and my relationships. Everything is a choice, every statement is an option, and every action has a reaction- all of which I analyze before making any form of assertion. Any words I say are true, any emotion I express is real, and anyone I spend time with I care about. I put extreme effort into each and every relationship I have, so I am extremely offended when the same care is not given back to me. It's a sign of true nonchalance, a display of indifference so belittling because I wasn't even worth a moment to consider how it could hurt.

I understand most do not take this much care into their thoughts or actions. Still, it does not make the pain any less. I'm not as hurt by the occurence of the event in question- I'm hurt that this person cares so little for me that they did not realize it WOULD hurt me. I'm not worth the few second pause before to contemplate how I'll feel? I'm not hurt by what you've done- I'm hurt by you not caring if I would be.

Once you've been in a situation that rendered you completely powerless and void of all control, you find yourself scrambling to reclaim control in all areas of your life. You don't realize how badly you will work to regain it until it's gone, and the depths to which minimal, daily scenarios become intensely serious when they don't happen in the way you plan them. You feel as if everything is slipping through your fingers, and you're falling back into the black hole you worked so hard to crawl out of.

I've kept myself from writing because I know that with this release comes an emotional uprising too tiring to initiate. Writing is a soul encompassing endeavor which leaves me both mentally && physically exhausted. Like any true artistic release, the planning to create makes the process stressful, tired and uninspired. The time it is most beautiful, is the time it is also most rewarding- when it is unplanned, undecided, and breathed purely from the power of the moment.

And in that moment, my fingers override my brain. I find them undecidedly pressing the keys, and my focus reverting to an almost mathematical format of letters, commas and synonyms. Time passes, paragraphs are formed and somewhere in the calculation, my tears have dried. I'm now focused on the wording of the thought, as opposed to how the thought itself felt. You can't control how you feel- but you can control what you do with it.

I can't control what someone does to me, but I can control how I react to it.

I can't control pain being inflicted upon me, but I can control what that pain turns into.

and finally...

I can't control that you were initially able to hurt me

But I can control that you will never be able to hurt me again.

This outfit is classic me- cream, layered and sparkly!

The key to my style is layering a neutral color with different textures. You can wear a bunch of similar colored pieces- but make the outfit completely interesting with different fabrics and designs. Wearing all cream on paper sounds boring- but it's the complete opposite when layered correctly!

This outfit was really inexpensive compared to the price it looks like. You don't need to spend a lot to create a true bohemian look- just play around with different textures in your closet in varying neutral shades. A LOT more outfits become possible when you look at your closet this way! These pieces don't technically 'match'- they coordinate. Buying pieces that can coordinate together is a LOT easier than buying things that 'match'- resulting in more wearable looks and being able to wear the same piece many different ways, as opposed to buying 'outfits'.

That's also the reason why sequins look so great with these looks- it sounds like an odd combination, but it's just another neutral with a different texture! (Grey, cream and beige!)

I'm doing a video soon on this look/how to transform a dress with a scarf- the dress I'm wearing is simple and really past season (the floral chested applique is so over done, but the floral detailing peaking out from a scarf is a really great addition!) Wearing a scarf like this transforms the front of any dress, and is an unexpected way to wear one in the summer. It's also a good way to conceal a lower cut, more revealing top! (Or in my case, add layers to my chest to make it look fuller than it really is) I used the tie from the dress, just wrapped it around the front instead to secure the scarf in place- but if your dress doesn't have a tie already, use another neutral colored belt!

The way I do sequins during the daytime is by keeping everything else simple- my braid is loose and relaxed, and the entire outfit looks comfortable- the sequins just make it a little bit more glamorous :)

If I had to describe my style in two words, it would be Everyday Fabulous.

These are three shades from Essie's Fall 2011 "Brand New Bag" collection.

Power clutch is an AMAZING charcoal- sure to be my new fall staple. Carry On is

MUCH prettier than the swatch photograph- it's a true deep wine as opposed to the muddy color it appears. Lady like is this really pretty mushroomy-lavender color (that I swear is my sister in nailpolish form)

Tart Deco looks as the bottle picture appears, the swatch photographed this weird bright

red (Only China Glaze dries seventeen shades darker than the bottle, not this polish!) Borrowed and Blue has been a long time favorite, I just finally joined the love club. This essence polish was only 99 cents at Ulta and is my new favorite polish HANDS DOWN.

The perfect tiffany blue color, a wonderfully opaque polish- and even prettier (if possible) when layered with the Deborah Lippman glitter. I can not rave about this enough! I rarely wear colors on my fingers (I purchase the polish- but always end up painting my nails silver, black, or white) (I'm loyal to what I love) but I've had this color on for three days now and there's no sign of me turning back anytime soon :)

Essie's "Buy Me a Cameo" was another addition to my rose gold polishes I've collected this summer- in the bottle it's a pretty color, but the polish is VERY sheer. If you're looking for a true rose tone, I wouldn't recommend this as your go-to shade. I'd stick with either Orly "Rage" or the Anise polish from DSW I swatched in an earlier post.

Jenny sent me the OPI "Mod About You" polish literally yesterday- so I will post pictures of this polish as soon as I can! She's such a sweetheart for getting me this!

My LA Style Diary

Hey guys! I was in LA these past four days working on an upcoming back to school video project- I can't WAIT to show you! Since it was my VERY first time in LA, I decided to stay through the weekend (I KNOW it's crazy- but this was seriously my first time EVER in California!) I had an amazing trip- it was so busy, but SO incredibly fun. But let's get to the best part- the clothes!! :D

Day 1:

Some of these pieces I bought this season (my open dresses), this week (kitson shorts) or years past (FCUK tunic). I only purchase clothing I absolutely love, so I keep and wear the same pieces for years! I also only brought carry on luggage with me- so I brought outfits I could accessorize with all of the same jewelry/shoes!

The open dress is my favorite summer staple- it's great for all girls! It's a fun && bold piece- but still completely covering! You don't have to show skin to stay cool in the heat or to attract attention- this flowing silhouette is classy, comfortable and crazy cute!

I love sheer long sleeve tunics paired with high waisted shorts this summer! It's an interesting

way to pair a tunic, but also a great way to wear high rise shorts without showing too much skin. A sheer tunic would look great with a colored pair of shorts as well! (I'm really loving pink denim right now!)

I didn't want to lose the cut of the shirt so I paired a extreme plunge slip under the tunic, tucked in to my shorts (only feels/sounds strange- but it worked!)

How To: Big, Sexy Curls with a Clampless Curling Iron

I've been LOVING the middle part && glamorous wave style this past month- I've worn it in

several of my most recent videos and it was definitely the highest requested tutorial I've gotten so far!

Creating styles with a clampless iron becomes REALLY simple once you understand the technique of it.

Overall rule with a clampless iron: the closer to the root, the more 'taylor swift' and full the finished style will be. Start below your chin with your curls if you want them to be truly 'bohemian' relaxed waves

Use a larger iron for looser waves, a smaller one for a more defined curl! For this tutorial, I'm using a one and one fourth inch barrel size.

Start by diving your hair in half, pulling the hair above your ears into a clip.

Then, divide the remaining hair into 2 sections- the left and right side.

I curl three evenly sized pieces on each side. Hold the barrel downwards behind your head

using the hand opposite the side you are curling for easiest access to the iron

To have hair maintain this smooth 'ribbon' look, smooth each section before

wrapping around the iron, flattening the hair to its widest state as you wrap it

Hold the ends as close as possible to the iron, even a little bit off will make

your ends super straight and ruin the end of the wave. Use a glove if

you're not comfortable coming that close to the hot iron- (some of the irons

you can get even come with gloves- I definitely burned my thumb a little bit while filming this!)

Hold your hair on the iron around 5 seconds- more or less depending on the thickness of your hair

After finishing the lower section, release the top layer of hair && create your middle part

Hold the comb between your brows and above your nose for the perfect position

Use the comb also to find where to brush the hair back from the part

Put the base at the front of the part- where the comb starts to lift off your head

is where your crown should begin

Work in 3 sections from your part-

the right side, the left side, and the back

From each section, divide hair into three layers

Curling each layer into three equal pieces as before.

The layered curls will give volume to the style as opposed to just grabbing the ends and

curling at one time.

(Curl the ends together if you'd like looser waves, curl in layers for more volume)

Besides layers, you can add more volume by teasing, or curling closely to the root.

Angling the iron upwards will make it easier to curl the back layers of your head

Curl further away from root for pieces directly around the face/bangs- this will

create the swoop away effect instead of having tight curls starting directly

at your forehead

Right off the iron, these curls are tight and a little crazy looking

Let them cool for a few minutes before brushing them out

(Brushing them out does NOT ruin your work! It actually helps the waves stay in place

all day! I promise you they will not fall just because you brushed them!)

I'm really loving the middle part this summer. It might feel weird the first few times you wear it, but it doesn't look as weird as it may feel! I LOVE this look!

Once you learn the technique of the iron && how to maneuver it around your head, it will become SO easy for you! This is now the only style of curling iron I'll use on my hair- I got my first one back in october, and I never looked back :)

I created these waves by curling my hair in sections with a 1 and 1/4 inch clampless curling iron (the Fahrenheit 4 in 1). After letting the curls set, I brushed them out with a paddle brush to create the flowing wave! I did a tutorial on how to use a clampless iron to create these waves (just using a smaller iron) but the technique is the same- click here to watch! You'd think to jump for a shimmer bronzer in the summer, but a matte bronzer provides the natural glow to look like you're actually tan as opposed to wearing a shiny product. This gives your skin the actually beachy look as opposed to the 'I'm trying to look beachy' cakey bronzed appearance. Dust a slight amount on the highest points on your face where the sun would hit, as well as your neck, shoulders and decollete to appear tanner!

Add the shimmer with your blush! 'Lovejoy' by NARS used as a blush contour is GORGEOUS in the summer- the shade itself is a tawny bronze, only a shade up from a bronzer. It's a slight flush with a tiny bit of shimmer to give you that natural, sunkissed finish.

This sheer red gloss by Ultraflesh plumps your lips (without pain!) and adds a sheer tint that looks great in the sun. It's moisturizing, which is a BIG plus in the summer (your lips are already drying out from the heat- you can replenish them with the gloss! Like a chapstick and color combined in one)

Dry Shampoo is a year round must, but ESPECIALLY in the summer! Most days I want to get up and get outside- this powder makes your hair look first day fresh without multiple steps. This is also a GREAT product for colored blondes who can't make it to the salon- it lightens your dark roots!

Lancome Effacernes concealer is great because it's waterproof- meaning sweatproof as well! It won't look as if it has faded from your face after an hour in the sunshine!

I love matte foundations- boots no 7 has been my favorite find this year! You might not automatically think matte is a good idea in the summer- but why add any shine to your face with a dewy moisturizer when you're going to be out in the heat? I like to stay matte and only add shimmer where I want it as opposed to looking like I'm sweating the moment I step out of the house!

Finally, this liquid liner by L'oreal is amazing for summer! SO many of you recommended this to me, && I'm so thankful you did! It's got AMAZING staying power && has yet to smudge on me!

How to: Duotone Summer Glowing Blush

Duo Tone or Two Tone Blush is great for the summer-

I like the soft gradient 'sunset' look on the cheeks as a fresh change to my normal

makeup routine, and using a darker blush as a contour is less harsh than a contrasting bronzer

The two blushes I used were NARS Dolce Vita (powder) and NARS cactus flower:

This is also a great way to wear cream blush without feeling like your face

is sliding off in the heat- put a teeny bit on your apples to give the sheer cream glow,

while the powder blends back into your cheekbone to complete the look!

Open Maxi's are my favorite summer look. Look for dresses that have the full button

option (like a slip) so you can create this style.

This is a great piece to add drama to any outfit but still stay cool in the summer time (it's a full length dress but adds no heat or weight to your outfit!) Also it's great for girls who might be uncomfortable wearing shorter shorts- you can cover up your backside while still having the comfort of easy to wear shorts!

I'll do a full video soon on different style open maxis and what to pieces to pair them with (I especially like to wear patterned shorts with this look!).

   As time goes on, you begin to romanticize situations in your head. The reasons why you stopped talking, broke up, or left any form of failing relationship seem less negative with each passing day. You forget the small irritations, the daily upsets, and think of the larger, general picture. Once they're reintroduced into your life, you only seem them in these small, happy doses and ultimately you begin to slip back into the comfort of their presence. Time passes, you begin to think that maybe they've changed, and then something happens to shock you back into the reality that it's actually all the same.

   It doesn't have to be a large event that brings this abrupt slap back into reality. Often times it's a poorly worded text or inappropriate joke, but no matter the size of the injury, the damage is the same. You begin to remember that there was indeed a reason, if not fifty, for why you stopped talking in the first place- and that you were as right in those upset feelings then as you are at this very moment.

   The saying is that 'time heals everything', but does it really heal- or does it mask? Is time actually repairing us? Or is it blinding us from the emotional clarity we priorly possessed? Is this time-induced comfort actually an emotional land mine waiting to erupt as we come closer? ..Or am I the only one who continuously repeats her mistakes?

   The best decisions are always made in retrospect- but how is it that we can see our previous choices, remember the pain, and still indulge in these opportunities? Is it the thrill of something 'taboo'? The chance to change our past? ..Or are we simply masochistic?

   How is it that we can know better, but still choose the opposite? Why do we continue to play russian roulette with our emotions based on the 'what if' notion- What if he's different? What if it's changed? ..And what if this is all happening for a reason?

And just when you get lost in the fantasy, something brings you crashing back into reality with all of your questions answered:

He's the same.
It hasn't changed.
It is happening for the same reason it always has-
to remind you that he's not right. It's still not right. It will never be right.
&& to never settle.

Summer Nail Polish Haul, Swatches && Review

Essie 'Marshmallow' is a sheer polish. I would only recommend this polish if you have hours
of free time, loads of patience && like the look of bubbled, layered polish! I never understood
the premise of a sheer white- what's the purpose? White is used for french manicures, in styled
looks such as dotting, and for solid nails- none of which would benefit from a sheer cast! What a waste.
I like the color it came to be after a 6 episode long layering session- but I'd search for a similiar
one that takes away fewer hours of your life.

Have yet to use 'Kisses && Bises', but I purchased it just for the sheen on top of a manicure, which is what the sheer polish is meant to be. This looks great on top of a white to create "pearl nails", a
look I think is quite cute this season!

Marabou is a classic ballet pink and is actually one of Essie's opaque colors.
Essie is my absolute favorite polish when it is opaque- I wish they all were that formula!

The Sally Hansen Complete Salon Effects polish formula is one of my favorites.
It stays on extremely well, is opaque && I love the flat brush applicator. The peach
color looks much prettier in person!

Look at the China Glaze polish! Sugar High looks almost red compared to the light, bright pink
it was in the bottle! It's not even darker in the same pink tone, it's completely different! Never
had something look this different before. Have you noticed this with other CG polishes?

I've never used Color Club before but I LOVE these neon bright colors! So fun for summer!
The pink is legitimately the first polish that I can say truly lives up to "Barbie Pink"- in the
bottle, AND on the nail!

I also just purchased Essie's "Turquoise && Caicos"- I saw it so much on Youtube that I finally
decided to purchase it...

I kept it on my nails for a solid six hours.
